Quality photography really sets you apart from the thousand upon thousands of photos on the dating sites.
So many people take out their digital cameras and have a friend take the photo.
Sometimes you might select a candid, which can work, but when your in a party scene or group shot its hard to tell who is who!
It is important to have a well composed image, proper lighting , and a flattering pose which emphasizes your very best features !
So how do you create a photograph which sets you apart from all others?
Some of my suggestions for both men and women is to wear solid color clothing. Makeup should be flat. Gloss on the lips and lotions on the skin cause bright highlights which detract from the photo.
The background should be as simple as possible and if outside you should be in sharp focus letting the area behind you go totally out of focus. This allows for depth in the photo and draws the viewer to you.
Lighting should be diffused. Use open shade whenever possible. Evening lighting is fantastic and produces beautiful colors and richness in tones ( light to dark) and values (shades of colors ).
Take a group of photos with different expressions and poses. Look at the thumbnails and select 2 or 5 photos that really stand out. Select the best one.
I have used these basic techniques for over 30 years!
Lastly, always consider hiring a professional photographer.
